Anxiety is a feeling of worry or fear that is experienced as a combination of physical sensations, thoughts and feelings.

All children and young people can experience worry and this is a normal part of development. Anxiety presents in many different ways and is based on the individual’s life experience. The degree of anxiety a child or young person may face also differs. During particular points, such as meeting new people, joining a new school, taking exams, changes at home or in relationships are all potential sources of anxiety.

When can it become tricky?

When a child or young person begins to feel stuck in their anxiety or when there are feelings of distress, overwhelm and feelings of being unable to manage the experience this can leave the young person exhausted, isolated and limited with things they may feel able to do.
